i bowled in a tournament (my first) over the weekend, with some fellow teammates, and a couple of friends. we bowled team, doubles, and singles over the course of two days. we'll find out how we did after the next weekend is over, but no matter. it was exhausting, but a ton of fun, and i definitely plan on doing it again.

hey there. i'm saying "hey" even though i'm pretty sure that nobody is around to read it. that's ok, and totally understandable. i've been a complete and total slacker when it comes to this blog, my e-mail, my friends. i'm amazed that people still bother with me, to be honest.

the thing is, too, is that there is so much that i want to say, to share, and yet somehow, and for reasons yet unknown to me, it stays in my head. i stay silent, get lost in the quiet and the loneliness. it's like i am watching my mental self sit in the corner, mumbling, wondering where she is. it needs to change, before i end up completely alone.

Well, looks like today is going to be a nice, lazy Saturday. Quiet one, too. All my friends are busy with one thing or another, so it'll just be me, myself, and moi today. The skies outside are beautiful, with whiter-than-white, ginormous, floofy,(yeah, I'm making up my own words) clouds, with just a hint of rainstorms in the future. Of course, I know that because the only venture outside today has been to drop off the rent check. I've been glued to my computer, and sucked into Flickr, back-tracking through photostreams of some of my contacts. It'd be sweet fun to be hanging out with some of them today. My list of folks I really want to visit keeps growing on daily basis.

Ah well, such is life. Nothing's on the agenda for the rest of the day, and I don't mind one bit. I am going to try and pry myself away here soon, and join the three-dimensional world. Hope your day goes in unexpectedly pleasant directions.

Mozart, my sister's, and our family dog of about 12 years, died Monday night. For many of those years, my parents and I helped raise him. I remember countless walks, trips to the groomer's, the vet, playing in the backyard, hunting him down whenever he managed to get out (which thankfully, wasn't that often), giving him treats, or just sitting with him on the porch, scritching him behind the ears, while we both enjoyed the sunset. He was a Siberian Huskie, intelligent, with a loving, loyal demeanor, bright, beautiful blue eyes, and he was always happy to see you. Always.

Out of respect for my sister's request for privacy, I'm not posting a picture of him. But I felt I had to remember him here, somehow. Whenever Mozart went to the groomers, they would dress him up with a little bandanna or scarf around his neck. He would look so handsome and cute (and happy to be out of there). I don't know why, but I saved this particular one, and put it away. Now I'm glad that I did.

I'll miss you, buddy. Have fun chasing those squirrels up there.

Today I:

Bowled 10 games, and got my high game of 148 (woo hoo!). However, with two hours of straight bowling, my fingers, hands, arms, shoulders, back, legs, and feet (oh boy, the feet) hurt. Ouch.
Cleaned up the kitchen (mostly), washed a mound of pots and pans, and thanked God for whomever invented the dishwasher.
One word: laundry. Had fun at the laundromat, and washed all the sheets, pillowcases, towels, workout clothes, and pants. Let me tell you, it doesn't get much more entertaining than eating your Jack In The Box chicken sandwich and fries dinner on your lap, while you wait for your schtuff to dry. That is the life, right there. ;-)
Turned over and rotated my queen sized mattress, and dressed up with above mentioned sheets. Feathers from down pillows are currently all over the floor. It looks like I murdered a goose in my bedroom.
Watched a seafood cook-off on the Food Network, and am now craving shrimp, lobster, crab, and 17 different types of fish.

To do:

Vacuum murdered goose off of the carpet.
Sweep and mop floors (gotta love the scuff marks from my new sandals).
Put away all the damn dishes.
Laundry. (I still have colors, whites, darks, and rugs to do.)
Shred unwanted mail, go through receipts, and wipe down desk. Better yet, break out the matches, graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. (note to self: buy apartment insurance tomorrow)
Get some sleep. I've heard it's nice.

A Cheesecake Fantasy comes to life at Cold Stone

If anyone's still actually out there, I just want to say thanks for showing up at all.

The past couple of months have been interesting to say the least. Around the middle of March, I had an allergic reaction to something, still not sure what, and managed to get an amazingly bad rash, all over, except for my face and hands. I'd be relatively ok during the day, but night was a different story. I wasn't sleeping well and scratching all the time, totally miserable. I wore long sleeves for at least two weeks straight in this heat.

My primary doc put me on a short course of steroids and allergy meds. They helped temporarily, but when they were done, the rash came back. I finally got in to see a dermatologist, who prescribed a steady course of steroids, as well as an anti-itch med. Both of these helped, but they also increased my appetite to the point where I managed to eat my way through this city, and put on about 10 pounds in less than 10 days.

For my 5'2", already slightly overweight frame, it may as well have been 50 pounds. I had stopped working out, as well, since I didn't want to aggravate the rash, nor show my arms and legs in public.

First, the breakup, and then the weight gain. I'll be honest, I've been depressed, and then feeling guilty about it. Not a good cycle. Anyhoo, I had a relapse last month, but the rash is finally gone, along with the non-stop itching. I'm not on the meds anymore, and will be going back to classes again soon.

Thanks for listening to the pity party. I now return you to enjoy the goodness that was the Cheesecake Fantasy at Cold Stone. It was goooood.

I'm in one of those spells again, where I'm up for doing a lot of nada. Sure doesn't help that I've not been getting much sleep (entirely my fault by staying up way too late, due to Flickr'ing and late night tv watching), dealing with the monthly monster (tmi? sorry), and now my lower back is hurting up a storm, aggravated by bowling (yes, I'm in a league - more on that later).

Ever since I can remember, I've had no problem going out by myself. Movies, meals, shopping, the park, etc. Growing up, some this could be attributed to the fact I was pretty much wallpaper in high school, with only a few close friends. But mostly, it just never really bothered me.

I love hanging out with my friends, don't get me wrong. But there seems to be a stigma of shame attached to being in any type of social situation by yourself, a pity party, as if to say, "Aw, poor thing, she must not have anybody in her life." Just last night, I went out to eat, and the guy at the table in front of me commented, "Looks like we're both eating dinner alone." Granted, he might have been hitting on me, and I was too hungry to notice, but still, his tone seemed to indicate how pathetic we both were.

There's no shame in the game, people. If friends cancel, boyfriends leave, family's far away, and you've got some time on your hands, take it solo. You may surprise yourself with how good a time you have with me, myself, and I.

It was a good day.

He had suggested a motorcycle ride, so off we rode, to Tombstone.

The weather was brisk, but perfect.

We strolled, and watched the show in the dusty, historic streets.

There was lunch, getting to know each other better, in between bites and sips.

There was laughing, and smiling, and glances. There were butterflies in the stomach.

I felt the need to document it, somehow, to be able to return to it.

We rode back, the scenery was beautiful, the quiet moments comfortable.

I was happy.

Dave's recent post about annoying the drive-thru clerk reminded me of my recent visit to McDonald's over the past weekend.

Mind you, I had decided to go inside, since the drive-thru was packed, but nonetheless, I was not disappointed.

The exchange went as such:

Many Cards Short of a Deck Cashier (MCSOADC): "Can I help who's next?"
Me: "Yes, I'd like a Quarter Pounder, no cheese, and a medium fry. To go, please."
MCSOADC: (Presses several buttons on register) "Did you want the meal?"
Me: "No, thanks. Just the sandwich and the fries" (I had already picked up a vat of Dr. Pepper at the Circle K)
MCSOADC: (Presses buttons, pauses, presses more buttons) "Did you want cheese on that?"
Me: "No."
MCSOADC: (Looks at me, presses buttons, pauses to look slightly confused, presses more buttons) "So, that's one Quarter Pounder, no cheese. Anything else to go with that?"
Me: "Did you get the medium fry?"
MCSOADC: (Pauses, presses an unmentionable amount of buttons, which I think at this point, the hamsters in the wheel keeled over)
"Is that for here or to go?"

Mr. Assclown also has a separate charge for child pornography. Here's hoping for a very unpleasant and memorable stay in a federal, pound-me-in-the-ass prison for this utter waste of skin.
